Steps take a beating in Pittsburgh. Between the hills, the freeze-thaw, and the salt, stairs that aren't built right will crack, heave, or settle within a few years. Kelley Construction builds natural stone and poured concrete steps, stoops, and landings that stay level and safe — because the last thing you want is a liability on your front porch.
We hand-set natural stone treads on compacted aggregate bases with proper drainage. For poured concrete, we use air-entrained mix designed for freeze-thaw resistance, with rebar and footings that go below the frost line. Every set of steps gets anti-slip finishing and code-compliant rise-and-run dimensions.

Almost always a footing issue. The original footings were either too shallow (above the frost line) or sat on fill dirt that's compacting. We dig down to undisturbed soil and pour proper footings below the frost line.
As many as the grade requires. For long runs, we build intermediate landings every 12-15 treads for safety and code compliance. We can integrate retaining walls and railings as needed.
We coordinate railing installation with trusted local fabricators. We set the posts and anchors during construction so everything is integrated, not bolted on after the fact.
